Jacob Michaels has been coaching at Franklin since spring 2002 track.  Fall 2002 came on board for XC to design a majority of workouts and do a majority of summer of coaching with Coach Jim Hennessy who retired from XC coaching this year after 40 years of coaching. Hennessy and Michaels co-head coaches for 14+ years in XC. 

Coach Michaels has coached athletes to 7 individual state title in track: 

Bryce Burgess large school 3000m state champion 3000m 2007 and 2008.

Ian Burgess in 1500 and 3000m in 2011when we went down second largest classification for first time (Franklin had been competing in 6A with less than 1000 kids). 

In 2017 Henry Mong captured 800 and 1500m state titles in largest classification for the first time since 800m NCAA champion Elijah Greer did it in 2009. Henry's combined 3:50.52 and 1:52.78 were second fastest double run at state meet by .02.  Henry was named OSA track and field athlete of the year and was Oregon's Gatorade track and field athlete of the year as well.

In 2018 William Eaton won Franklin's fourth 3000m title and was a close runner up in the 1500m.

In XC the Burgess brothers both became XC champions their senior year of 2007 and 2010 (5A) respectively.  Bryce finished 11th at Footlocker west that yea,r less than a second from 10th. Bryce was named Oregon's Gatorade XC athlete of the year his senior year.
