Since 1976 the Highlander Cross Country program has been in the hands of the Green family.  15 XC State titles by Dan Green has led the program to the current Head Coach, Juris Green.  In his 11 years as Head Cross Country Coach at The Woodlands High School, Juris Green has led the program on to more storied successes winning 6 Texas 6A State titles for a program total of 21, 2^nd place 3 times, 5^th and 7^th once respectively.

Coaching philosophy

The coaching philosophy of the Highlander Cross Country program is ‘total program development’ from the freshman division through the Junior Varsity to the Varsity divisions.  With an average number of 80 team members, the Highlanders continually produce competitive student-athletes at all levels in the classroom, on the xc course and in the community.

The Tradition

The program’s motto is, ‘The Tradition’.  The tradition has long symbolized the work ethic involved in being the best you can be in all aspects of life.  On the cross country course the Highlanders display just that- a Tradition of excellence in not only their respect for opponents but also in their attitude towards their challenges on race day.
