Matt Aguero guides Oklahoma City University's men’s and women’s cross country and track & field programs as head coach.
Aguero’s teams have won four cross country national titles. He has two runner-up finishes in indoor track and one at the outdoor track championships.  Aguero’s teams have finished in the top five nationally in cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field a total of 12 times.   
Aguero was named the NAIA men’s cross country coach of the year in 2018. He has been named the Sooner Athlete Conference coach of the year a total of five times.    
In addition to national team championships, Coach Aguero has directed 37 individual and relay national champions.  Most recently, Mark Shaw (2019 10,000 meters and 2017 cross country), Oscar Kipkoros (2019 3,000-meter steeplechase), Aminat Olowara (12 individual national titles and two NAIA records), Mackenzie Wahpepah-Harris (2018 mile and 1,500 meters), Michaela Werner (2017 marathon) and Arya Bahreini (three-time marathon champion in 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017 U.S. Olympic Trials marathon qualifier).
Aguero has 14 years of experience as a head coach at OCU, St. Gregory’s, and Cameron. Aguero’s coaching career began in 2004-05 as an assistant at Virginia Intermont. Aguero helped Virginia Intermont to the 2004 NAIA men’s cross country championship. Aguero is a USA Track and Field level I and II certified coach.
Aguero has ran more than 30 marathons, including the Boston Marathon, Chicago Marathon, and the New York City Marathon. He won the 2005 Oklahoma City Memorial Marathon.
During his college career, Aguero became an NAIA all-American while competing for Minot State (N.D.), setting the school record in the marathon. Aguero also set the East Central marathon record while becoming an all-region cross country runner and three-time national track and field meet qualifier.
