Coach Matt Ellis began his teaching career in Bellarmine's history department in the fall of 1997. Matt continued competitive running during college at the University of Puget Sound where he earned All-American honors in 1994. He took over as the Bellarmine varsity girls head cross country coach in 1998 (became the head track & field coach in 2006) and has coached 3 State Championship Teams.
Outstanding individual coach Ellis has coached include: Brie Felnagle who was second at NXN and ran 4:38 for 1600m in high school (NCAA Champion at UNC and ran 4:05 for Adidas), Nicole Cochran who ran 4:49 in high school, Hannah Dirby (4 time 400m State Champion), and Jack Yearian (4:04 for 1600m in high school).
